Ouch! Tips for Avoiding Moving Injuries on the Big Day

SelectStorage October 13, 2015 Comments Off on Ouch! Tips for Avoiding Moving Injuries on the Big Day 226

As the big moving day arrives, it is important that you are preparing everything and placing your items inside of the moving truck. One of the most overlooked problems when it comes to moving is injuries. Moving from house to house is not only exciting, but it is chaotic, hectic, and confusing at times. If you are not prepared for the move, injuries are likely to occur much more easily than if you take the time to prepare beforehand.

Before you start slinging boxes and lifting the wrong way, consider the tips below to help you avoid injuries that will make your time unpleasant.

Don’t Lift Anything too Heavy

If you feel like an item is too heavy for you to lift, avoid it, and wait until you have help. A dolly works wonders too and can help you roll the heavy item from your home. If you lift a box that is too heavy, you run the risk of dropping it and injuring yourself, straining your back, and even hurting another family member.

Lift Using Your Legs

Many people make the mistake of lifting with their back and this causes strains, tears, and aches. To prevent this from happening, make sure you are squatting to lift and using the power from your legs and thighs to get boxes and furniture off the ground.

Wear Gloves

Wearing gloves with grips on them can help you grab a hold of items much easier and you are less likely to drop those items. Find a pair that fits well and use them, especially when moving large furniture items.

Avoid Rushing Around

Whether you are running late or you simply want the day to be over, avoid rushing around when you are moving. If you rush around, you run the risk of falling, dropping boxes, and injuring yourself. Take it slow at all times and when necessary, carry over moving into the next day.

Stop When in Pain

If you begin to feel pain or something does not quite feel right to you, stop moving altogether and wait until you are in good health. Moving heavy items while you do not feel well can cause additional injuries or worsen an existing injury.

Moving day is a big day, but it is important that you are not injuring yourself and putting a damper on the day. Use the tips above to help you make the most of your move.
