Moving to a new home can be stressful for everyone in the family. In fact, even you may be stressed out about the idea of moving all of your personal belongings to a home you have never lived in before. These are normal feelings and there are some ways that you can make moving fun for your entire family. Let’s explore some of those ways now.
- Include Music
One way you can make moving fun for your family is to sit down one night and think about all of your favorite songs or songs about moving to a new city, meeting new friends, and so on. You can play these songs as you pack up your belongings and move the items into the moving truck.
- Make Moving a Game
Everyone loves games and you can even add rewards for the winners. Moving games can vary in type from who can pack their room the fastest to who has the least items to pack and more. Sit down and think of a couple of games that you and the family can play to get everyone involved.
Of course, the rewards do not have to be extravagant, but they could be simple such as the winner receives a dollar or the winner can choose a restaurant to eat at in your new city.
- Enjoy Some Sweets
Sweets and good food always encourage people to do something and you can encourage your family with a feast. Consider a dessert bar that is laid out on the counter and you can pick at it every time you finish packing a box. This is a great way to encourage kids to get involved because what kid doesn’t love to indulge in sweets?
- Take a Tour of the New City
If you are planning on moving to a new city, take a weekend and explore it. You could arrange something where you list all of the attractions and fun activities throughout the city and then each family member can pick one or two activities to do while you visit. This will help you and the family learn more about the city and you will enjoy spending time together as well.
- Take Your Time
There is no reason to rush and stress yourself out. If you know you have to move in a couple of months, take your time and dedicate a weekend day or two to packing. If you stress too much and rush around, you will only create tension within your household and you will not get as far as you would if you relaxed and had fun with move day.
Before you panic and worry that no one will be motivated to move, use the above tips to get the whole family involved. The ideas above will allow you and your family to enjoy each other’s company all while moving toward a final goal.
