How to Avoid Property Damage When Moving Your Furniture

SelectStorage January 7, 2016 Comments Off on How to Avoid Property Damage When Moving Your Furniture 360

With moving day comes a lot of risks such as injury to yourself, injury to a family member, or even damage to your property. It is not uncommon for people to accidentally damage their personal belongings or the home they are moving into or out of. To help you better move your things, we will go over some of the ways you can avoid property damage.

  1. Pack Correctly

It is important that you pack all of your items properly in boxes and containers prior to moving. You want to utilize strong cardboard boxes so that they can hold up the weight of your items.

In addition, disassemble all of the legs from your furniture as they may knock into the walls and door jams as you move.

  1. Hire Professionals

If you are not confident that you can move your items without damaging them or the home you are moving into or out of, hire professional movers to move for you. Professional movers are experienced in moving items and avoiding damage. In addition, the moving company carries insurance that will protect you and your belongings if the movers damage anything.

  1. Use Quality Moving Equipment

The type of moving equipment you use will make a difference. To avoid damage, you should utilize a dolly, furniture pads, and even moving blankets and straps to tie your items down in the truck.

  1. Get Door Frame Guards

Door frame guards are perfect for when you need to move large pieces of furniture out of rooms and onto the moving truck. The guards are made from high quality foam and if you knock into them, they will protect your door frame and your furniture as well.

  1. Cover Your Flooring

You should cover your flooring throughout your home with moving mats that are anti-slippery. Once you are ready to place a piece of furniture in its place, you can remove the cover on the flooring, but make sure that you leave the remaining covering over the other flooring areas to prevent scratches.

Protecting your home when moving does not have to be difficult, but it will take patience. You should avoid rushing around and never just slide the furniture and boxes on the floor without the right mats in place.

Before you even begin your move, walk around your home and determine what areas you need to protect and then get the supplies and place them in the right areas.
