Moving day. What do those two words mean to you? They may mean excitement or they may warn you of a stressful day ahead. Either way, your moving day does not have to be one to hate. In this part one series, we will go over some helpful tips that will ensure your moving day is one to remember – in a good way of course.
- Keep Less, Toss More
When we say keep less and toss more, we mean just that. The lighter your load is, the easier your move will be. Of course, you want to keep items that you plan to use or will use because simply tossing them and rebuying them does not make much sense. But, if you have a bunch of items that you do not like, do not use, and do not want, do not take them along for the ride and place them in your trash can now.
- Reserve a Truck Rental Now
While you may simply want to wait until the day of your move to go get the rental truck, you are not always guaranteed a truck. It is wise to reserve your rental truck a couple of days in advance, this way, you know that the truck size you need is going to be waiting for you when you head to the truck rental facility.
- Purchase and Inventory Your Moving Supplies
Now is the time to decide how many moving supplies you will need and then go purchase them. You do not want to be stuck packing and run out of one of the most essential items – boxes. Once you have purchased the supplies you think you need, run through your packing supply inventory one more time and wrap up any loose ends and purchase any additional products.
- Set a Schedule
Once you have reserved the truck and purchased your packing supplies, sit down and set a schedule. You should include each person in the family and write a timeline of actions they need to take and when each action should be completed by.
For example, you could write down that you need to pack up the kitchen and this should take no more than one full day. Make sure you allot yourself enough time when it comes to each action to avoid delays.
- Pack and Label Your Items
Now that you know what the plan is, start to pack up your items. Take your time and focus on a single room at a time, as not to confuse yourself or create a hectic situation. You should start in a room where you know the items will not be used as readily as say the kitchen. Always label each box, so you know where to find your items.
This part one series will help you get a good head start on your move and essentially make the day flow smoothly for you. Take a look at part two in this series for more tips to make moving day stress free.
