Welcome back. In part one of this series, we went over some helpful tips to make moving day easy for you. In part two, we will continue to provide you with tips to make this big day easy and stress free.
- Pack Your Fragile Items with Care
One mistake that is commonly made is people do not think they need to heavily protect their valuable. Often times, their reasoning for thinking this way is because they will be the ones handling the boxes, so they are sure they will do it with care. The downside to this is that valuables can break in the truck when you turn, go over a bump, or when another box falls on top of it. To prevent this from happening, you need to make sure you pack all of your fragile items with care and then set each box containing fragile items to the side. You should pack these boxes last or take them in your personal vehicle with you.
- Gather Your Paperwork and Turn On Necessary Utilities
You do not want to wait until the day of your move to turn on the utilities at your new place. It is recommended that you start having your utilities turned on about a week in advance. You may need to put down a deposit or two, so make sure to inquire now, so you can budget for the deposit.
Next, gather all of your paperwork and keep it in a safe place. Some of the paperwork you will need includes your: social security cards, birth certificates, leases, etc.
- Look into Your Storage Options
Before you begin your move, take a tour of your new home and look at all of the available storage options within your home. This will give you a good idea of how much stuff you can bring along with you. You should also measure doors and the space within each room to ensure that all of your furniture will fit.
If you notice that you will not have a lot of storage space or you find out that your furniture will not fit, check out local self-storage facilities in the area.
- Load Your Items Cautiously
Now that you have all of your boxes packed and labeled, it is time for you to move them into the truck. You should rent a hand dolly and furniture dolly to help you lift heavy items with ease. You want to make sure the you load all of the heavy items into the truck first and disperse the weight evenly around the outside walls of the truck. Fill in the remaining area with your heaviest boxes and then lighter boxes on top.
If you are ready to have a successful and easy move, combine the tips from part one and part two together. We recommend that you always have help when it comes to lifting heavy items and loading them into the truck.
