You’ve graduated! How exciting is that? Now that you are officially done with school, it is time to move out and head home. But, before you throw everything into your car and hit the road, there are some things you need to know about, so that you can prepare yourself for them.
- Emotions Will Run High
Even though you are in college, you will experience emotions and possibly a tearful goodbye. This is because you are realizing that your new life is about to start and take shape and of course, you must say goodbye to all of the friends that you have made.
One way to help alleviate some of the sadness is to exchange phone numbers with your friends and also have a graduation party before moving day.
- Traffic is a Nightmare
If you thought you could say goodbye to the campus and leave, you are wrong. You are not the only one who graduated and you will be trying to leave with thousands of other students. Everyone who plans to head home will be packing their things and packing their vehicles at the same time.
To help you combat this, you should plan early for move out day and have most of your things already packed. This way, all you have to do is a couple of final touches and head home. If you have family nearby or if some family members came to your graduation, send them home with a box or two to help you out.
- It’s Going to Be Hot
If you graduated in the summer, it is going to be one hot move, especially depending on where you live. You need to make sure that you prepare for the heat and pack enough bottles of water to keep you hydrated. If it is hot, you want to make sure that you start moving early in the morning and skip moving during the most brutal part of the day – 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
- Avoid Injuring Yourself
How horrible would it be to injure yourself and then be on bed rest for some time after graduation – pretty bad, right? Make sure that you are always following the proper techniques to lift and carry heavy items. You should dress appropriately for the move and if you need help moving a box or two, ask someone nearby or rent a dolly.
- Hire Movers
If you simply do not want to worry about the hassle of moving out, hire movers to help you. Your movers will be able to get you out of your dorm room quickly and you will not even have to move a single box yourself. Sounds awesome!
If you are planning a college move out, expect there to be a lot of traffic and some tearful goodbyes. You should plan early and try to avoid waiting until the last minute, as you will find yourself stuck in your dorm packing while everyone is honking their horns and heading home.
