It took long enough for moving day to arrive and now you do not want to face any more delays. To help prevent additional delays, we have provided some tips below to ensure a smooth day that flows with your timeline.
- Make a Map of Your Route
Before you head out for the highway, make sure that you make a map of your route. This will help you save time and also avoid any traffic jams along the way. You should provide each member of your family with a copy of the route, especially if they are driving different vehicles to your new location.
When you do make the route, try to remember to avoid areas of high traffic, especially during peak rush hour times such as morning, lunch, and after work.
- Pickup Your Moving Truck Rental the Night Before
If you have the option to pickup your moving truck the night before your big move, do it. This will help save you time, as you will not have to try and drive up to the facility the day of your move. If this option is not available, it may be worth it to you to simply rent the truck the day before.
- Have Your Vehicle Inspected
A day or two before your move, take your vehicle into the shop and have it inspected before you hit the road. A breakdown on the side of the interstate can delay you by hours, iif not a day. Make sure the mechanic on duty checks your oil, brake pads, and tire pressure.
- Create a Schedule of Events
Next, you should create a schedule of events for the day. This means that you should write down each action that needs to be done and create a timeframe for it. For example, you should put loading the truck on the list and allot yourself up to six hours to get this completed. Of course, it may take less time, but you want to overestimate a bit to prevent stress.
- Verify All Appointments
You should verify ALL appointments a day or two in advance to ensure that everything will go as planned. Therefore, if you have movers scheduled to arrive at 11:00 am, call a day in advance and make sure there are no foreseen delays. Often, the moving company will call you to remind you of the appointment, but you can always follow up with them yourself.
If you are worried about moving day delays, plan everything out ahead of time and allow yourself enough time for each planned activity. If you find that you are running short on time, consider cutting out some activities or asking for additional help.
You want to remain calm on move day as injuries can occur from rushing around and being stressed out. If you plan properly now, you will be able to avoid any obstacles that get in the way, or at least have a workaround for the speed bumps that remain.
