As moving day comes to a close, you are now faced with the daunting task of unpacking everything, keeping it organized, and finding a place for it. Not only can this be stressful, it may drain what was a fun and exciting day.
Before you panic too much, the following four steps will help you transition easily into your new home and you won’t be ripping your hair out along the way.
- One of the first things you can do to ensure your unpacking goes as planned, is to place the boxes into their designated rooms. You want to avoid placing all boxes into one room as this adds more stress and means you will have to move the boxes again.
Whether you or a moving company are moving your items, write on the side of the box where the items go and then send the box to that place before bringing in the next box.
- Now, imagine where you plan to put everything. You never want to start unpacking your boxes and not have a plan for them. For example, when you begin unpacking your room, decide where you want your decorations to go and then place them there. By doing it this way, you prevent clutter.
- Next, begin unpacking the things that you need the most. For instance, starting in the kitchen may be more essential than placing items into hall closets right now. You want to ensure that you get all of your necessities out of the way before unpacking additional items and décor.
- Remember to take it slow. You do not have to unpack all of your boxes in one day and the likelihood that you need all of those items right away is slim too.
Make a game plan and try to tackle it one at a time. For instance, set aside one day for the kitchen, two days for the bedrooms, and so on. Pacing yourself will result in less stress as well.
As you begin to unpack your boxes, you may find that you run into items that just don’t fit in with your décor or there is just no room for them. In these cases, consider renting a small storage unit to keep your items safe while leaving other areas of your home open and free from clutter.
