Before you move, you will need some basic supplies to make it happen. If you do not have the following supplies, your move may be much more difficult than you intended and without some of the items, you probably won’t be able to move at all.
When looking over the list of supplies below, think about what you have and what you need. You should begin preparing early so that you are ready to begin packing and moving when the time comes.
- Moving Boxes or Containers
Although it may seem obvious that you need to place your items in boxes or containers, many people forget to collect them. Once you know that you will be moving, you should begin collecting as many free boxes as you can. If you need some extra boxes at the last minute, you can purchase them from your local moving store, self-storage facility, or home improvement store.
- Packing Tape
Packing tape is a necessity if you plan on using cardboard boxes. Many times, the free cardboard boxes you receive will be broken down or the tape on them may be worn. You will need to go through and re-tape all of the boxes to ensure that they will hold your items.
If you do plan on using packing tape, you may want to invest in a tape gun dispenser to help you quickly and effortlessly apply tape to all of the boxes.
- Furniture Covers
If you are going to be moving your furniture, you need to have furniture covers to place over your bed, couch, and any other large pieces you may have. These covers will help protect the items and keep them from scratching door frames as well.
- Bubble Wrap and Newspaper
You will need to wrap your items securely before you place them in any of the boxes. You should wrap your valuables in bubble wrap and then re-wrap them in newspaper for extra protection.
- Screwdrivers and Tools
You should have a small toolbox at your disposal when it comes time to move. You will eventually need to remove doors, legs from tables, and more, so it is wise to be prepared with a variety of tools to help you accomplish anything you may come across.
If you are getting ready to move, you will need the above basic supplies to help make the big day happen. You may be able to get by without some of the supplies, but it will make your day more difficult.
