Clutter. You may feel like it is everywhere within your home and you may feel like you can never escape from it. Who really has the time to sit down and declutter their room. It takes hours, right? Wrong. In fact, in this article we will provide you with tips and tricks to declutter an entire room in 15 minutes or less. A simple hour throughout the week and your entire home will be completely free from clutter.
- Toss the Trash
The first step is to look around your room and identify what is trash and what needs to be thrown away. Have an empty coke can on the bookcase? Toss it. Have a couple of empty envelopes from mail you received a couple of days ago? Toss it. Get rid of all visible trash for starters.
- Identify Items That Look Out of Place
Now that the trash is out of the way, take a quick glance around the room and determine what looks to be out of place. You do not need to comb through each shelf or drawer just yet, so only look for the obvious items that are sticking out.
- Put the Items You Identified Away
Now that you have identified items that are out of place, put them in their place. As long as you keep up with decluttering, putting away these items will not be too difficult. You should avoid just stashing the items anywhere and actually find them a home. This will avoid clutter later on down the road and will make each passing decluttering session that much easier.
- Toss Out Anything You Can’t Find a Home For
Now that you have removed and put away all items that were out of place, take the time to throw out any items that simply do not belong. For example, if you have labels left over from a party 6 months ago and you do not have a use for them now or in the future and you cannot find a place to stash them, toss them. They are simply taking up too much room and do not serve a purpose.
- Rent a Storage Unit
If you find that you have too many items that you want to keep, but no place for them, consider renting a self-storage unit. The unit can serve as a home away from home for the items that you are not ready to part with yet. You must keep in mind though that this is a temporary solution and you cannot simply use your storage unit as an overflow room – well, you could, but it would turn out bad. You will need to face your fears and part with the items at some point.
If you are ready to declutter your home and get rid of the extra items that you no longer want or need, start with a simple 15-minute decluttering session.
