Pros and Cons of Keyless Locks for Your Storage Unit

SelectStorage April 7, 2016 Comments Off on Pros and Cons of Keyless Locks for Your Storage Unit 436

If you are trying to find the right lock for your storage unit, you will quickly learn that there are many different types of locks that can be used to secure your unit. Before you choose the first type of lock you see, take some time to research how well the locks work along with the pros and cons of each one. To help get you started, we will go over the pros and cons of keyless locks for your storage unit.

Pros of Keyless Locks

  1. No Key

One of the pros about a keyless lock is that it is exactly how the name sounds – no key required. You never have to remember to grab the key and you never have to worry about losing the key as you will open the lock with a code.

While there is a key option to open the lock, you do not need it to use the keypad and it is only used when you want to override the keyless entry.

  1. You Choose a Code

Another great thing about keyless locks is that you are able to choose the code you want and change it whenever you want without having to have the lock rekeyed. In addition, you can give out the code to whomever you want to have it without having to have a ton of keys made to pass out.

  1. Ease of Use

Lastly, customers choose keyless locks because they are easy to use and you do not have to worry about fumbling around in the dark to try and open them. Many of the locks have glow in the dark keys, so that you can see them even in the middle of the night.

Cons of Keyless Locks

  1. Wear on the Buttons

One of the downsides to a keyless lock is that if you use it on a regular basis, you will find that the numbers that coincide with your code wear down too. This can alert others as to what your code might be and you may find that someone is able to figure out the code.

  1. Peeking at Your Code

Another problem with keyless locks is that other people around you may try to look over your shoulder as you type in your access code. This can be a safety concern because if they did see your code, they can quickly access your unit when you are not around. You should remain vigilant when you enter your code and change the code every few months to protect your items.

  1. The Cost of the Lock

The last con is that the lock is more expensive than traditional keyed options.

Final Thoughts on Keyless Locks

Keyless locks are ideal for those who are on the go and in a hurry, but they do pose a safety risk if the numbers are worn down or if the code can be figured out quickly by other people. If you do choose to use a keyless lock, make sure you protect your code and change it often for supreme protection.
