Now that the winter is here to stay for a bit, you do not need your lawn furniture. But, how do you properly store it? Below, we will go over some storage tips to help ensure you can put your lawn furniture away without it deteriorating this winter.
- Clean Your Patio Furniture
The very first thing that you need to do when you want to store your patio furniture is clean it off. If you leave dirt and grime on it, you may end up with paint chips or scratches when you pull the furniture out of storage.
You should start by scrubbing the furniture from top to bottom and even on the underside. Once the furniture is clean, you will then need to allow it to dry. If you do not allow it to dry, you will notice that mold and mildew form on the furniture coverings, umbrella, and cushions.
- Stack the Chairs
When you place the items in storage, stack the chairs one on top of the other in a neat formation. If you have a chair cover on hand, cover the chairs as a whole unit to protect them from dust.
If you do not have a cover, then you can purchase one by measuring the size of the chair stack. Try to choose a cover that is waterproof as well.
- Put the Cushions in Bags
You should place all of the cushions into bags and then stack them on each other. It is important that you make sure the cushions are completely dry before placing them in the plastic as dampness will lead to humidity, which will cause mildew on the cushions.
- Protect the Table
You should never just place the table into your storage unit and you should always protect it. If the table has a glass top, remove the glass and wrap it in bubble wrap to secure it. You should also wrap all of the table legs in bubble wrap as well to prevent them from being damaged or scratched – you will also be protecting yourself in case you run into one.
Before you place your patio furniture in your storage unit, it is important that you make sure you are preparing and protecting it. If you follow the steps above, you will then be able to pull out your furniture and enjoy it come spring time without any worry of damage.
