It is no lie when people say that kids cost a lot of money. When you start to add up the cost of the crib, nursery furniture, diapers, clothes, wipes, and décor, you are already at thousands of dollars. Once your children outgrow the items they have, you may not want to toss out the items in case you have another baby later on down the road or in case you are planning to have another child shortly. Before you toss things out or store the wrong items, check out the tips below as they will help you choose what to keep and this can save you a lot of money in the long run.
- Toys
Baby toys are one of the things that you will spend the most money on and one benefit of them is that you are able to reuse them for subsequent babies. If your child is growing up quickly and no longer uses his or her baby toys, clean them up and place them in your storage unit. When you have another baby, you will be able to grab these toys from your storage unit and put them to good use without spending hundreds of dollars to replace them.
- Crib
As your baby grows, you will eventually need to get rid of the crib and graduate to a toddler bed and then a twin or full bed. But, when you do graduate to a toddler bed, keep the crib. For storage purposes, you can disassemble the crib, but make sure you keep all of the hardware close by, so that you can put the crib back together when the time comes. Keeping your crib will save you hundreds of dollars.
- Clothes
Baby clothes are one thing that you will go through a lot of and you will constantly be replacing your child’s clothes on a regular basis until they stop growing. When your child outgrows his current wardrobe, go through the clothes you have and keep what you think you will use for your next child. You should launder the clothes before you store them to prevent any mold or mildew from forming.
If you have a bunch of clothes that are gender specific, you may want to pare down some of the stash and only keep your favorite pieces just in case you have an opposite gender second child.
You should also store pairs of shoes. You will find that the younger your child is, the less they wear their shoes and if their shoes are in good condition, why not keep them for your next child. Shoes can cost a lot of money and you will save yourself the headache of shopping for new ones.
Baby gear and supplies are expensive and if you do not save the supplies and gear you have now, you will find yourself budgeting and repurchasing the same items you have already owned. To help save yourself money, pack up and store the baby items above.
